Incredibly Slow speeds

My server has had incredibly slow loading speeds right after I installed CPanel on my server. Is this normal? Checking my service statistics, it says that my memory Usage is 100%. How can I clear my Memory usage and make my server loading faster? My Disk Simfs is at 24%, so it can't be space related. I have like 15 GB on the server left.

Support for this would be appreciated. Thanks!

I think we need some kind of FAQ or pinned thread that explains how to post a "I need help" thread. Too many threads here start with "My server is slow/dead/hacked/etc.." but not enough details are posted so either nobody bothers to help them or you have to do 20 questions just to get to a point where members can start to assist them.

To the OP, you need to post ALL the specifics of your machine AND if you have done anything so far to try to fix the problem. I think there really is a very strong pool of knowledgeable people here who would be happy to help but see threads like this and think its too much effort just to get details so they move on.

Additionally, I think that most threads that go unanswered are due to a poorly formed question or that the poster didnt bother to go back and read what they posted. I know when I see a thread that makes no sense to me I just skip it and move on even if the person posting seems to have a real problem and is in desperate need of any assistance.

Just me 2 cents.........

15 GB free? Are you running on a VPS / VDS account? (Virtuozzo or similiar)

If so, that could very well be your problem because most VPS servers do not have
enough memory resources or CPU cycle time allocated to properly run Cpanel so
everything ends up running at a snail pace crawl unless you disable a lot of the
extra "optional" services such as Spamassassin and others, etc.

If you are trying to run Cpanel on a VPS, your account should have no less than
512K memory barebones minimum guaranteed before burst scaling and a
full 1 GB memory would be preferred as the guaranteed minimum memory level
for the VPS server account.

Aside from hardware resource issues, there are also a number of additional security
concerns when using VPS accounts such as the inability to use "chattr" functions
on most VPS platforms and the ease of masking script processes in memory
making it an ideal environment for hackers because security cannot be as tight.

Upgrading to a dedicated server (even one with less system specs than your VDS)
would dramatically increase the performance of Cpanel beyond your wildest dreams
because you are no longer splitting hardware resources and CPU clock cycles!

Anyway though ....

Just a really bad idea altogether running Cpanel on a VPS server and you would
probably be much better off running Plesk or Ensim if that is your server type!

I personally DO NOT recommend running Cpanel on any VPS server!

Yes, I have 15 GB still. I've only used 3 GB right now, which means I have 12 left, so I should be working fine.

Alright, I edited my first post with the information. And my VPS provider, RapidVPS notified me saying that CPanel should run perfectly on the environment type on my VPS. And I really don't wish to try using Plesk on my server, as it really lacks features and all Plesk wants is money, not support. I prefer CPanel because of it's flexibility. I can't convert back to Plesk.

What if we ran an VPS with 512 MB RAM? Would that help the situation?

Ram may not be your problem (but more RAM is allways good)

we have plenty of VPS's with 256MB Ram that run just fine
but as stated before you are not providing any usefull information so others may help

example the question I asked before
how many sites are currenly hosted etc etc

I agree with dalem and also the fact that you are subject to your environment of shared hosting. You may be guaranteed cpu time and ram but that means nothing if your provider does not provision things correctly. The result may be worse conditions than a regular non vps host that is oversold.

Do provide your vps specs, perhaps your top output for starters. You offer no information and warrant nothing but guessing from everyone that replies.

I host 26 users currently, most barely use up 15 MB, one uses up 129, but it doesn't have any major processes. The rest use up like 10-15 MB.

And as for CPU Usage, nothing is basically being used.

From what I have seen so far, there is nothing unusual running, you are just plain overloaded for all of this activity. Mysql usage, active users, spam assassin etc, you have as much activity going on as a typical dedicated server and on top of that, most everything is running off the swap file.

You should take spiral's advice and go for a low end dedicated server. I admin many vz boxes but they are for single domain customers needing specific apache settings and light usage.

I can't understand anything of it. I think SpamAssasin is causing this. What about Resolver Configuration? That can be it too, right?

I believe by your processes, you are simply overloaded. If your resolver config was not correct, you would have dns issues. This does not look to be the case.

Others will agree after seeing your resources you simply need to cut back clients or upgrade to a dedicated server. Increasing vps resources probably will not help for long if at all.

since you did not Answer my question before I will just guess

If your host is running Virtuozzo in UBC mode and your RAM usage is a 100 % than the node is over sold

from what you posted there is not much that would cause such a big big slow down in on your server (I checked your site it is extreemly slow )

I could most likely find the problem in 10 seconds but not from the forrm
