Instaling cpanel on Suse 10 - 1

Hi,

I have been trying to install the cpanel on my Suse 10 Linux system with 2.4 Ghz processor and 256 MB ram PC.

I did wget layer1 which downloaded a ~623 KB file
then I did # sh latest to install the package in my /home while I was logged in as root

something began to happen and some error kept coming but I can see the dots like ....... coming.... I am posting the log file contents here. I dont think the setup is working fine. The log file says that the installer tried installing mysql from many locations but is not able to install it.

Simply, choose a different OS. The support OS's and versions are listed on the cPanel sites front page and Suse 10 is not one of them.

thats exactly what I wanted to know that its the problem with the version and nothing else. I don't mind installing different linux.

Please let me know how big is the download(all files) as the setup says it will take 10 - 70 but does not talk about internet speed. I think I will be able to calculate how long will it take to install with my internet speed.

It's not really possible to say how many applications or files need to be downloaded to completely configure the server for cPanel as alot depends on both the Os and the state of the server. Installation does generally take 1 to 2 hours on a normally connected server in a datacenter.

thanks for the quick replies. I think you can make a wild guess about MBs to be downloaded like:

less than 200 MB
200 MB to 500
500 MB to 1 GB

can you please tell me when Will I be asked for a licence....during installing cpanel or after finishing and how am I supposed to get one for trial. I guess I can only host one website during the trial.

in the morning when I woke up i saw the the cpanel installer has finished installing the cpanel.... I am pretty sure it should be corrupt. But can you please tell me how do I proceed with the cpanel...I mean i did not specify the primary domain or something.... so i realy can't visit mysite.com/whm

where is the license thing...

You have to obtain a 15-day test license from cPanel to try out their product. You will need the main internet IP address of the server for that as per this page:
http://www.cpanel.net/dist.cgi

Once your IP address is registered, you should be able to login to WHM with:
http://your-ip-address:2086
