Hi,

I have Linux Centos 5.8(32 bit), I want to install ffmpeg. Is it possible to install ffmpeg via WHM cpanel? I can see "Install RPM" option but not sure which one I should select to install ffmpeg.

Other way is connecting by putty. I tried to connect to server by putty but I always get "Access denied" error for root account even password is correct.

Please help.

thanks

You may not have shell access. Ask your host if shell access is enabled for your account; most hosts disable shell access by default.

PuTTY is only one way to connect to the server via SSH (Secure SHell). You may notice that cPanel staff almost never refer to PuTTY, because we do not use it. I just wanted to mention this in case you run across the terms "shell" or "SSH." PuTTY is just one program that can connect to a server via SSH. SSH is actually only one possible way to access the shell, but by far the most common for remote administration.

Regretfully, we (cPanel staff) are unable to provide direct assistance for installing FF-MPEG. I can suggest that you search in the forum for "ffmpeg install" to see some threads that show how other users have done it.

Hello :)

In addition, you may need to consult with your web hosting provider if you do not have root access to the server. All installation guides for this application I have seen indicate root access is required.

Thank you.

1. if you got a shared hosting then simply answer is no you cannot install ffmpeg then.

2. you would need your own vps or dedicated server to install ffmpeg.

3. go to FFMPEG Auto Installer and download latest version pack and unpack it on your dedi/vps server if you own it and that you got root and then chmod every .sh file to 777 and then execute install.sh and it will do the work for you.
