    Greetings folks,

I know you get noobie support questions here in your forums day in, day out and that it gets irritating but I'm up against the wall and could really do with some advice from someone who knows what they are on about!

I have spent about an hour reading the forums here, but my lack of perl knowledge (amongst other things!) keeps letting me down so if you could spare a little time to lead me through this it'd be eternally appreciated !

I'm trying to install CPanel on my CentOS 4.1 XEN VPS hosted by my unmanaged server provider at Unixshell. I have installed the OS from scratch as suggested, and ran the following to start the installation:

    Code:
    cd /root
    wget http://layer1.cpanel.net/latest
    nohup sh /root/latest &

The CPanel script completes with errors as follows:

    Code:
Unable to open /etc/userdomains: No such file or directory at /scripts/updateuserdomains line 632.
Unable to open /etc/trueuserdomains: No such file or directory at /scripts/updateuserdomains line 632.
Unable to open /etc/trueuserowners: No such file or directory at /scripts/updateuserdomains line 632.
Unable to open /etc/demousers: No such file or directory at /scripts/updateuserdomains line 632.

Thanks for the reply Dalem - :)

The output when trying to reinstall cpanel is as follows, navigating to the hostname plus CPanel port still does not work. I have also tried 'service cpanel start' (service not found) and checked for cpanel folders in /usr/local and init.d but cannot find any evidence of it's installation !!!!

cat: /boot/System.map: No such file or directory

you did not need to reinstall (if it was allready istalled)

    a simple /scripts/upcp or /scripts/upcp --force

    have you installed yum ??

did you tail the install log for errors?

there are a few issues with centos4 which may need correcting they are posted here in the forums

have cpanel help they will install ?

Well folks, I scoured the web, used some info from here, some from there and it finally it worked. For anyone else who finds themselves in the same situation heres what got it going...

    1) Ensure that the RPM signing key has been imported (CentOS, RedHat, Fedora)

    2) Install perl 5.805

    Code:
    wget http://search.cpan.org/CPAN/authors/id/G/GA/GAAS/libwww-perl-5.805.tar.gz
    tar zxvf libwww-perl-5.805.tar.gz
    cd libwww-perl-5.805
    perl Makefile.PL
    make
    make install
    3) Install cpan 1.83 (1.82 is referenced but I can't find a working link, you can google a source for 1.83)

    4) Download and run cpanel installer

    Code:
    cd /root
    wget http://layer1.cpanel.net/latest
    nohup sh /root/latest &
    4) Review cpanel installer output (look at nohup.out in your root folder) for missing perl modules

    5) Install missing modules

    Code:
    cpan install exactnameofmissingmodulehere
    6) Install a final module Net::AIM for instance

    Code:
    /scripts/realperlinstaller Net::AIM
