Well, that goes without saying.

But my point was that you don't need an RPM if you have a tarred source.

Look for the .tar.gz file and install it like so:

./configure
make
make install
make clean

Ok, i'll try to install it from source, btw Nick, that rh-7.1 box is box much less problematic server i got!!!

It has aorund 520 accounts on it, 2.4.20 -GRSEC kernel, 1.3.28 Apache with all php modules (except Chili ASP, Sablot, MBString)

It sinks around 50 - 90 GB/month and load rearly goes over 1.5!!!!

Has uptime of 67 days, with all do respect, i don't even think about upgrading OS on it!!!!

Btw, what are problems with RH-7.1, that newer releases do not have?

I instaled Postgres from source on RH 7.1, added few symlinks, had a few tweaks in /etc/rc.d/init.d/postgresql...

And it is working!!!!

It shows in cpanel ( i removed old rpm-s first)...
phpgmyadmin - works
It shows in WHM also :)

Nick, PostgreSQL support works even in a RH-7.1 boxes :)

Works, kinda

I got it installed, and is showing in my x theme, however, i won't create users or databases. Says it was created but it doesn't show up. I can access the DB using the postgre user, and create via the phppgadmin, that works, but cpanel/whm doesn't.

Any thoughts?

Changing Password....psql: could not connect to server: No such file or directory
Is the server running locally and accepting
connections on Unix domain socket "/tmp/.s.PGSQL.5432"?
Done
Reloading Postgres...pg_ctl: cannot find /var/lib/pgsql/data/postmaster.pid
Is postmaster running?

I got mine installed. It shows up in WHM, and I followed the password change steps as outlined.

In cPanel, it allows me to create a database and user.

However, phppgAdmin give this error message:

Warning: open(/tmp/sess_0b936145dfc77fcf7f490f82a874bf93, O_RDWR) failed: Permission denied (13) in /usr/local/cpanel/base/3rdparty/phpPgAdmin/libraries/lib.inc.php on line 74

And when I try to login to phppgAdmin, I get these errors:

Warning: open(/tmp/sess_0b936145dfc77fcf7f490f82a874bf93, O_RDWR) failed: Permission denied (13) in /usr/local/cpanel/base/3rdparty/phpPgAdmin/libraries/lib.inc.php on line 74

Warning: open(/tmp/sess_0b936145dfc77fcf7f490f82a874bf93, O_RDWR) failed: Permission denied (13) in Unknown on line 0

Warning: Failed to write session data (files). Please verify that the current setting of session.save_path is correct (/tmp) in Unknown on line 0

What do I do to fix these errors?

Help...

# rpm -qa | grep postgres
Delete everything that appears with the following command:
# rpm -e postgresql-server-7.2.3-5.73 postgresql-7.2.3-5.73 (and anything else, all on one line)
# rm -rf /var/lib/pgsql/data

I had this problem and took ages to find a way but here is how I did it:

login to ssh as root:

mv /var/lib/pgsql /var/lib/pgsql.old

then run the postgre install again under ssh:

/scripts/installpostgres

then log into your WHM admin and click on the Postgre Config and reconfig and then change your password and all should be working.

Strange problem.
We have WHM 8.5.1 cPanel 8.5.3-R2 RedHat 8.0 - WHM X v2.1.1
We install postgress with scipts/installpostgress. All work good. Posgress started. Then we rebuild PHP with support PGSQL option, All the done normally. So, we can hope see in the x2 theme phppgadmin, but, wow, it is not showed :( Database, creation froom client cpanel, changeing deleting - all work normal, but phppgadmin not showed in all cases. What's may happen? I check post there and saw that reinstall postgres.devel rpm's may help, i try this - but this is also not help to us.
Anyone have any recommendation for this situation?

Hello David,

Database creation will not work if you are logged into CPanel with root/reseller password.

You need to login using user password itself.

Also if you get the error:
"pg_connect(): Unable to connect" when you try to connect using php, check if /var/lib/pgsql/data/postgresql.conf has the following lines uncommented (without #)

=====
tcpip_socket = true
port = 5432
=====

If these lines are commented TCPIP connections would not be established.

Two problems I faced, eventually spent almost a day to fix it.
Thanks.

Regards,
Vinu

But, be carefully! Before do it this, recompile your php without support Postgress! In other case you will got php not work, because it will ask you for postgress library files...

Just tried the install.

It installed and old version.

Setting up Postgres Config...You are running an old unsupported postgresql version.
cPanel only supports postgres 7.3.x or better.

This is a brand new box with clean installation. Why would it install the old version?

Zach

postgresql-server: installed version 7.2.4-5.73 is up to date, no action needed.
postgresql: installed version 7.2.4-5.73 is up to date, no action needed.
postgresql-devel: installed version 7.2.4-5.73 is up to date, no action needed.

Obviously its not up to date?

I believe I have most of this resolved. However, when using cpanel to create databases, no database or user is created.

Having the same problem (Postgrsql won't start) with a Server and cannot figure out what 'postmaster' is?

# /etc/rc.d/init.d/postgresql status
postmaster is stopped

Doing a start gives a fail and need to know what 'postmaster' is and how to start it. Any suggestions?

Anyone got any ideas why my cpanel is trying to install a old version? Running latest cpanel.

Thanks
Zach
