    Hi,

Could someone please clarify the steps for installing an SSL certificate for a user?

They want to use a third party certificate, i.e. non-SecureSSL. Is it simple a case of selecting "Install and SSL certificate and setup the domain" and pasting in the .crt file, or is there additional steps? E.g what does "generate an SSL certifcate and Signing Request" do?

    Thanks for any pointers.

The ssl certificate installation requires a dedicated ip address assigned to the domain. After getting dedicated ip you will be able to create ssl key through whm. The option in the control panel can be used to generate a key for you. You need to use this key and purchase an SSL cert from any certificate issuing authority like Comodo or Verisign.

Once you have purchased the cert; you will be able to install it on your domain thru WHM.

Thanks. So assuming a dedicated IP address is available are these the steps:

    1) Through WHM: "Generate an SSL certificate and Signing Request"

    2) Through WHM: "Install a SSL Certificate and Setup the Domain"

I assume if the certificate is purchased through e.g. Verisign they paste it into 2) above?

    Thanks.

When you go to purchase ssl certificate you will get account from the ssl company. You can login and copy the cerificats to your whm.

Unless you work out an arraignment to have the certificate installed for you by the ssl company you will have to install it yourself. Which is not difficult at all to do.

    1) Assign the dedicated ip address to the domain

    2) Generate the csr
You should get the output of a key and csr. Copy both into a text document.

    3) Send the csr to the SSl vendor. After verification, the SSL provider sends you the ssl

    4) Click "Install a SSL Certificate and Setup the Domain", then Open the ssl in using notepad and paste it in. Click submit, the ssl installs and apache reboots, you're done.

If you obtained the certificate from verisign then you should be able to contact them for this information. If you did not then you probably should not really use their logo on the site.
