I edited my server's httpd.conf file -- I changed the user and the group that the server was running, from nobody to my userid/usergroup. When i restarted apache, my main website was working fine. However, when i attempted to access cpanel or whm, i now get internal server errors (500). I assume it's easy to fix this problem, but i'm not sure what i need to do. Can anyone help?

It is not recommended to edit httpd.conf directly on a cPanel server. Run /scripts/rebuildhttpdconf on your server and restart Apache. See if this solves the issue.
To edit httpd conf, you need to check cPanel documentation.
