    Hi

I have an account on out cpanel that refuses to bounce mail to non-existent email addresses, I have changed the default address to :fail: in the control panel for the account. I have also set the system wide default/catch-all destination to Fail as well.

The mail does come back to the sender saying undelivereable, and does not end up in the system account either.

    What should i do now?

    Hi,

I would like you to do a live testing, in which you have to send a mail to a nonexisting email address and then monitor the appropriate mails logs:

    # tail -f /var/log/exim_mainlog | grep <email address>
After this, send a mail to the email address and see what the logs suggests.

    Hello,

Could you search for one of the messages exhibiting this behavior in /var/log/exim_mainlog and let us know the output? EX:

    Code:
    exigrep user@testing /var/log/exim_mainlog
Ensure to post the output in CODE tags, and remove references to real domain names and IP addresses.

    Thank you.

    Hi,

Thank you for your help. Reading the debug log led me to realise that even though I had deleted the account and all the forwarding addresses, there was an old Auto-Responder that was not active anymore. Since deleting that auto-responder, the mail server is now rejecting mail successfully.
