When they came out with their commercial 2.0x
Doesn't that mean their old 1.3 isn't commercial and can still be used?

IPB v1.3 is freeware and does not require a commercial license and it
can be legally used in Cpanel as well with no problem whatsoever
so the information posted by another user in this thread is wrong!

However ...

IPB v1.3 is incredibly old, no longer supported, and hard to find and that
may the real reason for Cpanel dropping support for it.

For those who want to know, here is the IPB usage history by version:

v1.x - Any of the 1.x versions are freeware and open for public use without a license

v2.0.0 to v2.0.3 - Free for public use without a commercial license provided that you
do not make any attempt to remove the copyright messages or any of the links
to Invision Power from the footers or anywhere else in the software

v2.0.4 and above - IPB is available only with a paid commercial license and it is illegal to
use any version equal to or above v2.0.4 without paying for a license.

NOTE: The commercial license agreement for IPB was revised in 2.1.1 so that licenses
be allocated to a specific web address and the software can only be legally used
on the domain for which it was licensed. This means that even if someone actually
paid for a license, it would be illegal for them to use it on multiple sites or otherwise
a site that is not the one the license was intended for.

Cool, you know where I can get some sort of add-on for it?
Since so far it seems like my best option is download the dutch version and get an english lanuage pack..

See, I commend you for stepping forward and telling people I am wrong... but the problem here is, I took the time to verify my facts before responding, whereas you jumped right in blind.
A simple email to Invision Sales will correct you of your misguidance.

Use of IPB 1.3 Final?

I am wanting to develop a script for my cPanel Addons manager which would allow my users to install their own "1 click" copy of Invision Power Board version 1.3 Final. I am aware that version 2.x is classified as commercial and requires a license to use, but 1.3 used to be free and I am wondering if it still falls under the GPL licensing, or if it is now not permitted to distribute the board in this way.

Thanks for answering,

Hello,

You are not able to distribute our software in any way. This would be a direct violation of our terms of service and license agreements. If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to let us know. Have a great day!

Now... what were you saying about it being allowed? You can confirm this at any time by contacting the legal license holders for Invision Board at the posted address if you wish to further follow it up.

I'm still looking into it, but I think I found a loophole.
I did some searching and there's a freeware version of invisionboard 1.3 still in existence.
The catch is, is it's in dutch. So I'm seeing if I can switch it to english.
And before you say "That's illegal" The site looks like a site MADE by IPB.
it's one of the directories at invisionpower.nl

IPB 1.3x is terribly insecure and is not worth the time it takes to install it.

Simply use a new piece of forum software. There are many out there to choose from that are being actively developed and are free: phpBB, SMF (Simple Machines Forum), MyBB, etc.

Personally I like phpbbfm, but some people act like they can't live without invisionboard(mostly those at invisionfree), so I figure if they want it, here it is.
