Well I have been for 6 months without bind restarting on it\'s own. Now it does it 2 times an hour... I need to learn to leave well enough alone.

Well I took my own nameserver out of the resolv.conf and now bind doesn\'t restart every 45 minutes. Stil lthe same problem I have had for a year. I can\'t use my own nameserver in there. Never have figured it out .I was hoping that this problem would be fixed after I changed the misconfig in my /etc/hosts and zone for teh main box..but nope.. bind will not resolve a nslookup against localhost or runing against any other IP on that box. I have a class c on there. If I put any IP in my resolv.conf it wil lrun for 30 minutes and then that IP will not alow dig against it. I can change to another IP or 127.0.0.1 and it will run for 30 minutes on that IP. one at a time each IP I try will refuse dns traffic after about 20 -30 minutes. I restart bind and they all work again. This is same problem I had 6 montsh ago. It never went away. Any one know why we can reference out own dns server in resolv.comf.. when it works it is so much better ...not to mention it measn you don\'t have to wait 24 hours to set up subdomians and other things like that.

Just apply these

Make following changes as is:

1) /etc/hosts :

# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# That requires network functionality will fail.
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
server-ip your-main-domain.com ShortHostname

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Replace ShortHostname with your server name; do not add your domain

2) /etc/resolv.conf

domain your-main-domain.com
search your-main-domain.com
nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx # your NS1 IP
nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx # your NS2 IP
nameserver 205.162.50.248 # DarkORB NS
nameserver 66.96.193.2 # for Burst Hosted
nameserver 66.96.194.2 #For Burst Hosted

* Do not add descriptions followed by the #
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

3) Make sure you have DNS record for

DNS A record for your ShortHostName
DNS A record for your NS1.maindomain.com
DNS A record for NS2.maindomain.com

Everything should work fine.
