Hi, Ok I will re-phrase the question, as I didn't really phrase the last one right :)

I am running a Facial Deformaties (Cleft) Support group, that is currently running a php & mySQL chat room, and it keeps having problems (mainly with the way it refreshes) ... I have tried lots (and I mean lots) of OpenSource Chat Scripts, and none of them seem to be doing the business... then I spoke with my server's owner, and they kindly shifted it into a different datacenter that allows (on the AUP and Terms) IRC to run (due to security etc) - now that I am allowed to do it, I can't figure how to easily install an IRC server on it... I was unaware that cPanel didn't have one built in...

Has anyone got any suggestions of anything I could try?

    Kind Regards,
    DeanStev

add a shell user and compile an ircd from ssh. Some ircds i have used in the past are:

    UnrealIRCD
    UIRCD
    UltimateIRCD

IRCD's arent the easyist things to install if you dont know what your doing... Perhaps you could ask your server's owner to install it for you.

Well folks, still no luck - I am going to ask the datacentre to re-image my server and then I will try again... are there any guides out there for doing it?

    Kind Regards,
    Dean

As mentioned above, IRCD is difficult and time-consuming to set up. also there are some security risks that you must watch out for. If you aren't experienced with managing an IRC server, I recommend registering a channel with some other IRC server. Just be sure to read the AUP for that server.

Also check your DC's policies; some disallow bots, including NickServ, ChanServ, etc; and you definitely want these installed if you want to install an IRC server.

Just beware Unreal has some problems linking to other IRC networks because the delta is too high because of a modified FD_SETSIZE done by cPanel.
