Is BIND (named) still necessary if we are using DNS Cluster?

    Hello,

We are using cpanel DNS-Only cluster for our DNS system. All our web servers are configured to use the DNS-Only servers.

Is BIND (named) still nessary to run as a service on our web servers? Or can we disable named with no adverse affects?

(ie: Will dns updates originating from each web server still be sent to the DNS-Only servers?)

    Thanks!

Good question, i think it will be fine to shut it off on the web server. A quick test during non peak time will let you know, shut Bind down and if the sites still resolve all is good, if they don't, then a quick restart of the service will bring them back online.

You don't need Bind running on each server when you use a DNS cluster. DNS updates are made on the cluster still with this disabled - there is no problem with that

Yeah we don't run bind on any of our web servers, We have one cluster of DNS only servers and a DNSMadeeasy account. So depending on the need of the client, they are housed either in house on our DNS cluster or externally on DNS Made easy
