Is SpamScan still a thing?

Hi,

I just did a complete wipe and install of WHM/CPanel and everything went smoothly, except that I can't seem to find the SpamScan plugin anymore.

It used to come free with CPanel when we bought a CPanel license, and some external sites that sell CPanel suggest that's still the case. However, since the move from BuyCPanel to CPanel.net there are no plugin licenses anymore, and I can't seem to find a copy of the SpamScan plugin more recent than version 3.0 (which says in the README.txt categorically PHP 7 is not supported).

I can find very little reference to it anywhere. Is it still a plugin or did it get integrated into WHM/CPanel proper?

Hey there! This is a third-party plugin that isn't affiliated with cPanel. Most references I've found are a few years old, although I do see that some providers are still offering it as part of their license, but it's not something that can be purchased from us.

Yes but, from what I read, when purchasing CPanel licenses, SpamScan licenses were given for free. In fact, the README.txt says

SpamScan Plugin for cPanel & WHM
Copyright: Buycpanel Inc. http://buycpanel.com

So it's actually copyright BuyCPanel, which you now own, as I understand. So it's not as third-party as it would seem.

I guess from your response that it's not really something CPanel was aware of.

However, the reason why I ask is that Spamd seems now to be integrated into CPanel which I hadn't seen before. Is that what we should be using now?

Since performing the migration (without SpamScan, obviously) we've noticed a marked increase in spam (not huge, just noticeable), so CPanel & spamd don't seem to be doing as good a job as whatever the SpamScan plugin was doing. But I though they were both using SpamAssassin. I'm trying to narrow down the problem and I don't know how SpamScan stored its SpamAssassin config or if the CPanel & spamd is even supposed to work that way.

From what I am able to find, SpamScan was deprecated before our acquisition, so it's not recommended to keep using that at this point. cPanel has always had SpamAssassin available, which you can find more details on here:
