    hi everyone:

i just want to know if this is a cpanel problem, or if i screwed up elsewhere.

last night i decided to change my cpanel password. after wards, i was fiddling around on FTP to test a new page i wanted to add. at first things were fine, but all of a sudden, i got this database error message when i refreshed my site on my browser. after a little while, the error message disappeared, and now my site is just a blank page.

    please help

    thanks

If you use your cPanel username and password for database connections rather than using a MySQL user and password, then changing your cPanel password will break your site until you update your website's configuration to use the new password.

I recommend you instead use a MySQL user and assign that user a password other than your cPanel password. Storing your cPanel password in plain text (e.g. a PHP script's configuration file) on a web server is bad practice and could theoretically lead to a security breach of your account.

You can create a MySQL user by going to your cPanel interface and under Databases click on "MySQL Databases" and on the screen that appears you can create a MySQL user. Don't forget to assign that user permissions to use the database(s) you want it to use.
