    edit: After checking with other admins seems like many other servers have alot of core. files taking up alot of space also, this seems like a cpanel wide bug...

    FIRST THING YOU SHOULD DO ASAP:
    Re-set the max core file size, by running ulimit -c 50 - to set to max 50 blocks, this will stop these files from going crazy in the future.

    Over the last few days, two of my servers have seemed to have unbeliable usage that's affecting the root fs (/) filling up, no matter what. After a long investigation (du -h the entire server isn't feasable) it seems core files are filling up the file system. After seeing this on one server, I figured it would be the same on the other server, and low and behold I was right.

    To check your servers, look in:

    /usr/local/cpanel/base/horde
    /usr/local/cpanel/base/horde/imp
    /usr/local/cpanel/base/horde/services

    for core.* files.

    Code:
    root@edge [/usr/local/cpanel/base/horde]# ls -al
    total 1279556

    Can Cpanel somehow clean up these files itself, etc etc, or have some cron run, this nearly filled up the root fs of one of my system with other 3.0 GB in core files!

    root@fresh [/usr/local/cpanel/base/horde]# du -h * --max-depth=0|grep G
    28K COPYING
    1.9G imp
    1.6G services

    Easy way to remove the files:
    Code:
     cd /usr/local/cpanel/base/horde;rm -rf core.*;cd imp;rm -rf core.*;cd ..;cd services;rm -rf core.*;ulimit -c 50;
    ALSO re-set the max core file size, by running ulimit -c 50 - to set to max 50 blocks, it's default is something like 100000. This will make it so the problem doesn't come back again.

    It would be interesting to see how much space is saved on other people's heavy traffic servers / servers with horde users.

    I saved around 3.6 and 1.4 GB on two servers, and only around 100MB on another. So this might be causing your problem or it might not.

    Always glad to here comments etc on my findings :)

    It would have, but fortunately I did this first:-
    find /usr/local/cpanel/base/horde -name "core.*" -exec ls -l {} \;

    That looks safer, Kris - I'll remove my post above :)

    That was given to me by an admin friend of mine, I didn't think to scour of any possible core files. This acutally saved me 3.4 GB and 1.4GB on two servers so it's pretty important. Thanks for the heads up. The code above is mine and works flawlessly, only targeting the dirs where core files piled up.

    Also dont forget

    ulimit -c 50

    Go on, have a guess
    Kris,

    It would help if you posted your OS version, Kernel version and glibc version, since it's likely to be very specific on the servers it would affect. There have been several threads about Horde core-dumping on the forums in the recent past. The best course of action would be to resolve why it is core-dumping by analysing the core dumps themselves using dbg - but that's no easy task.
