OK, I got the best laugh of the day, courtesy of WHM. Check this out:

I clicked on "hostname" in WHM, and it says (this is a direct cut and paste!):

    Instructions

It is important to choose a hostname that you will not be using for any account. You should choose something that will be socially acceptable, as it will appear in all mail headers. Your hostname must be a FQDN. In english, A hostname should consist of a name and a domain name. All valid hostnames should have 2 dots in them. Hostnames should never begin with "www". Hostnames should also not begin with a digit, nor end with a hyphen ("-").

    Sample Hostnames
    fred.em445webhosting.com
    gravity.mywebhostnew.com
    rr4.rrhosting.com

    Ten Randomly Generated Hostnames
    anti-american.yourhost.com <---
    calabaza.yourhost.com
    castoridae.yourhost.com
    absolving.yourhost.com
    collicle.yourhost.com
    amphimixis.yourhost.com
    chemopallidectomy.yourhost.com
    cruck.yourhost.com
    blackleggery.yourhost.com
    anatocism.yourhost.com

At least in my country (USA), giving your server a hostname "anti-american" would not be "socially acceptable". Your mileage may vary. :D

    Hahaa i love it XD

    Thats very socially acceptable...

When i got my server i called it Monty =] (after monty python of course!) lol

Seen some server names which are very geeky tho, the college servers are all named after lord of the rings :| *cough* mega geeks...

It probably just picks a load of random words out of a dictionary file XD

    It might not be..

Might just be it is more compelx and has file of prefixes, main words and sufuxes

So it randomly grabs "Anti-" and "American" ;)

I'm always curious how people name their servers. I've seen folks name their servers after Simpsons characters, I named the servers at my office after Futurama characters, and my web hosting/dedicated servers are named after various lakes and bodies of water along the Cascade Lakes Highway here in Central Oregon.

LOL on spamalot -- no, probably a worse hostname choice than even anti-american.

dansgalaxy: BTW, one of my best friends lives in Braydon.
