    Hi folks.
    Just wondering whether anyone has come up with a solution to the growing trend in spammers using ISO encoded strings as their subject lines?

    example:
    =?iso-8859-1?B?WGFuYXggLSBObyBQaHlzaWNhbCBFeGFtIE5lZWRlZA==?=
    is translated by the email client as:
    Xanax - No Physical Exam Needed

    In particular we are finding using the standard blacklists, as well as subject line blocking for pharmaceutical words, like viagra, cialis, etc. has reduced the number spam received by our customers to barely noticeable amounts (yea!).

    Yes, Spamassassion marks these messages that get through, though I'm wondering if the server can somehow auto translate these subject lines to text, such that local filters and subject line filters can "manage" this spam more effectively.

    I don't believe blocking ISO encoded text is a solution since we have customers in many countries (though maybe there's a way?).

    Comment, or alternate solutions?

    Thanks,
    Jim
