    Hello there folks.

Can anybody help me with this? I've (finally) managed to get both send and receive to work with my e-mail accounts on cPanel (had to change the "@" to a "+" and then things worked out) but I still can't delete messages on the server from my iphone. I get this error when I try: "Unable to Move Message - The message could not be moved to the mailbox Trash." I'm having difficulty getting support from my server admin and was wondering if anybody can help me out. I've also checked for other threads asking similar questions but couldn't find an answer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Even if you have a suggestion as to a better route to get some answers, please just let me know.

    Best,
    -Seth

    Hello Seth,

If you log into Webmail instead at https://domain.com:2096/ where domain.com is your domain name, are you able to delete mails in one of the webmail clients such as Horde or Roundcube? I'm simply wonder if the Trash folder even exists on the email account in question.

    Thanks!

good troubleshooting move. Here are the results:

I do have a folder called "Trash" and have no trouble deleting from RoundCube or the mail-client Thunderbird.
Still can't delete from my iphone (it'd be even better if I could archive instead of delete).

This is happening on four different e-mail addresses all linked to cPanel. Two non-cPanel accounts function correctly.

Also, all mail marked as read reverts back to being marked unread after the phone checks for new mail.

    Any ideas?

Try this, on your iPhone go to settings > mail, contacts, calendars > select your IMAP account listed here > select "Account" listed here > scroll to bottom of the page to find the Advanced button and click.

Here, you want to check that your settings are as you wish. Specifically, click each item under the "Mailbox Behaviors" section to see if your folders match up with the folders on server.

Not sure if that's any help at all, but worth a peek I think.

    GL!

Ahhah! Thank you. and if I configure "delete" to an archive folder than I can archive instead of sending to the trash.

    Thank you very much!

    Best Wishes,

Is there a reason for this behavior that can be rectified? This is now one of our biggest support requests, besides just setting up the iphone for email.

Re: I've figured out send and receive, but can't delete e-mails from my iph

My customers are complaining about this too. The instructions above do NOT work for me or my customers. The only fix I've found that works is to go into advanced settings and set the IMAP path prefix to "INBOX" (all caps). This is the same as in Mail.app, but Mail.app configures itself to do it correctly whereas you have to do it manually on iOS.

    Here's what you do;

On your iphone go to settings, then mail, then choose the account you have setup that's being served on cpanel.

    Now click on "Account"

Scroll down to "advanced" and click on it.

Make sure "move discarded messages into" is set to "Deleted Mailbox"

Now Under the top menu "Mailbox Behaivors" click on "Deleted Mailbox"

Set the checkmark to the Trash folder on "ON THE SERVER"

Then you can trash your messages without errors on your iphone/idevice. And they'll go to the trash folder on your cpanel server.
