    Hi,

The jail shell seems to be a very good idea. But my users have complained of certain probs :

    1) .profile is not read after login
    2) sftp does not work
    3) Users have problem using pine saying they dont have sendmail
    4) time is shown in UTC

Is there any way we could add a few more functions for users to use on a case by case basis so that users dont feel too handicapped when they are moved to this new shell.(We can trully act as the JAIL WARDEN :-D )

"the problem is (probably) that it's just invoking bash after the chroot without the --login flag. With the --login flag it should change to the home directory and execute the startup scripts."

Thats a reply I got from a client who feels he is proficient in unix c programing.

Nick could this be the cause??

I'd certainly like to resolve the .profile issue. I have a number of customers that we moved off of an old server to a new one where everyone with shell access gets set to jail by default. They are now all complaining about the thier profiles not working and I REALLY don't want to revert them back to bash.

    Hi,

Guess nobody knows much on this.

Does anyone know how we could create our own shell like jailshell. :)

In that case we could have better control than this

    Hi,

Thanks for that.It was a beautiflly illustrated link too , I am getting some ideas on how we can make small small changes to the jailshell of cpanel so that we can add further features for the users.

    :)

So is there a fix for users logging in and not actually seeing their home directory with the Cpanel jailshell?

We had a security problem, and enabled it, but now all the programmer have to readjust their remote directories. This is very inconvenient for several hundred web sites.
