After every kernel upgrade you will need to reboot into it just type reboot or shutdown -r now

up2date -u will update everything that is not listed in the exclude list

kernels are excluded from automatic update so therefor you have to use the -f --nox

Will this command "up2date -f --nox kernel" work correctly on a CentOS 4.2 server?

    Celliott,

The command for CentOS would be
"yum update" for a full list of updates, or "yum update kernel" I believe to do just the kernel.

but you'll have to import the proper gpg key. Instructions for this can be found at http://www.centos.org/modules/smartfaq/faq.php?faqid=30
