Large Files

    In /var/lib/mysql

    There are large files named

    servername-bin.001
    servername-bin.002

    etc.....


    Which of these can be deleted? as some are over 500mb in size

    These are binary logfiles.

    You can purge them by logging into mysql as mysql root and use the RESET MASTER; statement.

    I had that issue and just turned it off in my.cnf, find the line for log-bin and delete it.
