We are letting a customer use our cpanel server as their secondary mx for their
exchange server. But I found that 90% of our queue of 4000 emails is "User unknown" replies
from their server to addressess not existing. alas it is spam that we direct to their server when we act as the secondary mx.

Is it possible to for us to process these mail with the spamfilter before we direct them to their server? Or maby reject them or give them less time in the queue than normal?

Or is this something that our customer should have handled better at their exchange server?

    Go on, have a guess
Unfortunately, that is one of the major side-effects of using a secondary MX. As you've seen, you'll mostly get spam sent to a secondary MX as the spam senders tend to ignore the MX priority setting ans simply send to whichever address resolves first.

One simple solution would be to enable inline exim RBL checks in the exim configuration for spamcop and spamhaus. This will stop the spam getting onto your server in the first place.

Beyond that, you're really looking into using an anti-spam solution to scan email before forwarding it to the primary MX. Mostly, though, you're probably going to have to live with it if you offer this feature.
