    Hi,
this is probably just a simple problem, but I have some clients complaining that the lastlogin never changes from 127.0.0.1 - in cpanel, no matter how many times they login.

    Thanks

When you do a secure login it will always show 127.0.0.1.

Cpanel does not use a real ssl daemon for its https stuff. Instead it runs it though a ssl tunnel which then redirects via 127.0.0.1 (hence the login) to the normal page. This is secure just does not allow for the logging of ips directly by cpanel.

Now I'm a bit confused, and my clients are a tad concerned. I migrated from an existing server, to a new clean fresh server. The old server logged IP's fine, when a user logged in it reported their ip just fine. On the new server it shows 127.0.0.1. (Actually it gave their hostnames, not their IP's, but it still worked.)

You guys are saying its always been this way, but I've got evidence in direct contradiction to that. Is there something I'm missing?

Maybe you did force ssl connections this time but not last? The way cpanel is setup if you use secure it has to be acessed via localhost.

I tried it again a moment ago to see if I was, in fact, crazy.

I log into cpanel on the old server, and it lists the ip/hostname just like it always has. On the new server it lists 127.0.0.1 everytime.

I understand people say that its always been this way, so perhaps there's a setting on the old server that has been wrong all along, or perhaps stunnel wasnt enabled or something. I can't say with authority. I am quite interested in learning what I may have been doing wrong to get this to behave like one would expect, as opposed to behaving like people say it does and always has been.

Eth00 raises an interesting point. So perhaps the connections were NOT secure before, and they are now and that would be why the IP is not recording?

Looking back at the exact address it redirects me to, it does show https on the new server, and only http on the old server. Does that support your hypothesis eth00?

Yes it does exactly. Try and login via https to your old server twice and you will see that localhost shows up as the last login:
    https://domain.com:2083

so if they do not login securely, it logs the ip ok.
If they DO log in securely it shows as localhost.

Interesting. I just got a new wrinkle in my brain!
