Hi;

(I hope this is the appropriate forum for this question!)

I use CPanel's Latest Visitors web logging app on a daily basis -- it's a very useful program! Lately, however, it has been behaving erratically: rather than show the entire current calendar date's visitors (its normal operation, in my experience), it often begins with visitors from some time later during the day -- completely omitting visitors during the earlier part of the day (I've realized this by comparing its stats with those from Google Analytics). (No, it doesn't seem to be the result of getting more than 300 visitors during a display period -- I'm averaging about 25 visitors a day.)

If anyone has any information or insight into this erratic behaviour, I'd really appreciate learning about it!

Thanks, in advance, for any help you're able to give.

This page in the cPanel interface will show the latest 300 visitors or the most recent visitors since your account's Apache logs were rotated (whichever is fewer). This log rotation occurs daily by default, after stats processing for the web statistics programs (Analog, Webalizer and AWStats) has been completed. When this happens on a site that only gets about 25 visitors a day, you'll only see visitors since a certain point in the day, on that day. This log rotation will usually occur at approximately the same time every day.

Please note that your hosting provider has the ability to adjust this setting to be a shorter or longer time interval if they choose.

Yes, this is what usually happened, which was fine with me. The problem is that this 'log rotation' is now often occurring at different -- seemingly random -- times. This makes it difficult to know when to read the logs, and to thereby keep track of how my site is doing.

It was my host, that -- admitting that they didn't know much about Latest Visitors operation -- directed me to this forum. :(

Any tips?

Thanks again!

It would probably be best to request your host open a ticket at https://tickets.cpanel.net/submit/ so we can get a better look at what is going on.

Thanks
