I recently discovered a "leechprotect" mysql db that I did not set up, and a "leechprotect" process running. Searching around, this seems to be part of cPanel. Yep, found it in the Package Manager -- it's enabled there, but does not show up in any user's cPanel. The leechprotec db has 0 rows, and yet

mysqladmin -i2 processlist status'

shows it as constantly open.

- What is leechprotect supposed to do?
- How did it get installed when I never upgraded to cPanel Pro?
- Since it's enabled, why doens't it show up in user cPanels?

Thanks,
Scot

Sorry to bump the thread, but I'm *really* curious what this mysterious leechprotect system running on my server is. Any clues appreciated.

Thanks,
Scot

Thanks NightStorm, but what does it do (or what is it supposed to do?) I haven't installed the Pro package, and yet leechprotect is running, but apparently not logging anything to its database - it's like this ghost appeared with no explanation, no documentation, and no apparent functionality. Just weird.

I found a clue as to the purpose of LeechProtect in the preview of cPanel 3:

http://cpx3demo.com:2082/frontend/x3/cpanelpro/leechprotect.html

It says "Leech Protect allows you to prevent your users from giving out or publicly posting their password to a restricted area of your site. This feature will redirect (and suspend if selected) accounts which have been compromised to a url of your choice."

Interesting. So the question is, if this is a cPanel 3 feature, why is its daemon running on my non-cPanel 3 server? Odd.
