    Hi,
I was wondering if someone could explain to me the difference between the legacy backups and new backup feature. Which one is better to use?

    Hello :)

An improved backup system was introduced in cPanel 11.38 with several changes. You can find more information on this at:

cPanel 11.38 - Improved Backup System

Some administrators may prefer to use the backup system included with cPanel 11.36 until they are able to test the new backup system. Thus, the legacy backup system is available for those that are not ready to switch to the new backup system included with 11.38.

    Thank you.

Are these giving the same backup and can both be used to move a file from 1 server to another aka CPMove?

Yes, you restore a backup generated with either the legacy backup system or the new backup system. EX:

"WHM Home » Backup » Legacy Restore Backups"
"WHM Home » Backup » Backup Restoration"

    Thank you.

Under the new backup system, can I *download* a backup rather than restoring it? I'd like to download it and extract a few files to restore; not put the entire account back to the past.

You can download system backups via cPanel in version 11.40, however that is not a feature available in Web Host Manager.

    Thank you.

Must legacy backup be on for the new backup system to work? I get the following message:

The legacy backup system is currently disabled. Click here to manage the legacy backup system.

    Regards

The legacy backup is not required. That message is displayed in the Backup Configuration interface to assist those who are looking for the older system.
