    Hello All

I couldnt seem to find the details anywhere else , but i wanted to ask about licencing.

We are going to give cpanel a go. We plan on buying two identical machines in production and development states.

The dev machine will also be a hot spare / failover machine.

Only one machine needs a cpanel licence, is there a cpanel developer licence file to use for non live servers , testing etc ?

I just installed without a licence, I cannot do a thing with the machine thru the web interface.

Its important for us to be able to test configuartions before we go live , and indeed while we are live. We hate downtime due to upgrades that go wrong etc, we are willing to even have a spare server dedicated to it. but we *hope* that the cpanel licence is flexible enough to accomodate us.

We are not looking for something for nothing, just a fair solution

    Cheers

    Neil

billing@cpanel.net is probably a good place to start. However I doubt they will give you a "test" or "dev" license, you will have to get two licenses. Most external cPanel licenses go for under 65 bucks a month, so having to pickup two licenses shouldn't break the bank.

Thanks , I will take it up with billing , but i see no sense in paying for a licence in a purely test enviroment,

But i guess billing will be definitive , as you said.

cpanel isnt the only cp out there , altho it does seems to be the users favourite choice.

I'm not trying to be an ass, but for argument sake.

What is stopping you from using your "dev" box as an actual server? Do you think that cPanel should sell account/domain limited licenses?

    Hi again.

Just the fact that I need the test enviroment, IMHO downtime due to upgrades is unforgivable. Change control is a must for a stable enviroment.

That aside, i concede that i could be suspected of wanting a free licence to make money out of. However i do feel i have made myself crystal clear on that,

btw , i didnt think you were being an ass at all , i thank you for taking the time to respond , after all i asked a question to get an answer.,

    Thanks

    Neil

Just to let everyone know, the 15 day test licence can be used for doing installation tests / testing your configurations.

You can apply for them when needed, you are not limited to 1 test application

    For me thats great news,

I relauch this topic. Is it possible to have a free developer licence to debug our scripts ?
I have only one server who is in production with CPanel. And pay 25 € per month for a full licence to test a few hours per month, no thank :D !
