Hi, on my new server i have a large mail queue of over 400,000. The server has only been up for a few days and it has mounted to this already. I believe have found the culprit and now just want a way to stop any client sending such large amounts of email. Is it possible to limit the amount of mail per hour?

Can someone please verify how i would go about finding out who is sending such large amounts of email?

Also why would so many messages be in the queue and not delivered?

Also i'm not exactly sure how the emails are being sent (smpt, sendmail, etc), how can i find this out?

Also i have the following processors running:

    9388 mailnull 0 0.0 0.2 /usr/sbin/exim -Mc 1F0AlR-00027e-Sd
    9289 root 0 0.0 0.2 /usr/sbin/exim -Mc 1F0AlR-00027e-Sd

    9393 mailnull 0 0.0 0.2 /usr/sbin/exim -Mc 1F0AlO-00027p-Pw
    9333 root 0 0.0 0.2 /usr/sbin/exim -Mc 1F0AlO-00027p-Pw

I know these are trying to send mail but why is the same message running from "mailnull" and "root"?

Also i have 100's of the following running, what are they?

    24801 mailnull 0 0.0 0.0 [exim]
    24830 mailnull 0 0.0 0.0 [exim]
    24831 mailnull 0 0.0 0.0 [exim]
    24835 mailnull 0 0.0 0.0 [exim]
    24851 mailnull 0 0.0 0.0 [exim]
    24870 mailnull 0 0.0 0.0 [exim]
    24872 mailnull 0 0.0 0.0 [exim]
    24924 mailnull 0 0.0 0.0 [exim]
    24944 mailnull 0 0.0 0.0 [exim]
    25027 mailnull 0 0.0 0.0 [exim]
    25047 mailnull 0 0.0 0.0 [exim]
    25068 mailnull 0 0.0 0.0 [exim]
    25104 mailnull 0 0.0 0.0 [exim]
    25144 mailnull 0 0.0 0.0 [exim]
    25147 mailnull 0 0.0 0.0 [exim]
    25217 mailnull 0 0.0 0.0 [exim]
    25218 mailnull 0 0.0 0.0 [exim]
    25286 mailnull 0 0.0 0.0 [exim]
    25289 mailnull 0 0.0 0.0 [exim]

    Thanks.

In WHM>>>>>>>Tweak settings there is an option to limit " The maximum each domain can send out per hour (0 is unlimited): "
You say you think you have found the cuprit ? well anyone who tries to send out 400,000 mails is a spammer of the worse kind. Suspend or delete their account.

There are 11,456 mail relays being sent from postgres@server2.myserverdomain.com, a client of mine is using my servers domain to send emails, how do i stop this from happening and locate the client that is dong this?

    Go on, have a guess
If you can find an email in spool from them it will say in the header file which account is being used to send out email.
