Our server can't seem to stay running more than 2 days without having the load go out of control, eventually causing services to stop and the server responding only to pings.

We are running, RedHat ES 3 and the latest Release of CPANEL/WHM.

As soon as the load starts to rise, the TOP command that I have open via SSH will stop responding. The server will still repond fine when loading up the WHM control panel, but I am unable to get any type of report on what is causing the load.

The load will then steadily increase until meltdown. During the load increase, httpd, mysql, pop, exim, and so forth are all running fine. I am just unable to run any kind of monitoring commands to see what's causing the load.

I end up having to Force Reboot the server from the WHM control panel, as the Graceful Reboot options does not work.

Nothing shows up in the /var/log/messages to indicate a problem.

The issue doesn't seem to replicate itself according to any pattern or cron job...

any ideas would be very helpful...

    Go on, have a guess
Also, since you're running RHE3, what kernel are you running? The latest appears to be proving the most stable now.
