In WHM (Server Configuration -> Tweak Settings -> Software) i've got an option that says:

Loader to use for internal cPanel PHP (Use oldsourceguardian for version 1.x and 2.x)

which selectable options: none ioncube sourceguardian oldsourceguardian
    (selected is 'none')

Can someone explain to me what are these and what they are used for? I only know that ioncube is an encryption system for php code, but i've no idea what its doing here.

    Thank you.

    aha!

So WHM runs on its own PHP version, thus if a WHM addon requires a PHP plugin like that then thats were we need to enable it. But for the PHP used by apache, its different.

Got it, thanks for posting that link. I'm moving on and asking my next question:

I took a look at those PHP encoders (ioncube and sourceguardian), those you've used them what do you think about them? have they been cracked in the past? are they good enough as their sites proclaim?

    I'd appreciate your thoughts.

This isn't native to cPanel. You can use one of the loaders on a machine that doesn't use cPanel/WHM. It just means that you are running an encrypted script (the author encrypted it). Just thought I'd throw that out there. :)
