    Basically I'm seeing large spikes in loading on my server. Twice so far this week this has resulted in the server loads spiralling out of control (up to 230) and the box crashing.

    My site which is mostly php and mysql ran better on a p3 800 mhz with 1.5 gig of ram.

    So far I have done the folowing to try and get to the bottom of the issue:

    * disabled mod_gzip
    * disabled PHP MMCACHE
    * Tweaked MYSQL
    * Tweaked Apache

    But I'm still having these problems.

    There is nothing in the apache error log (even with logging level set at debug) .

    Can anyone got any ideas about what I could look at?
