Hello I am now getting a lot of the following in my reports from my server:

name.of.server localhost[127.0.0.1]) - FTP no transfer timeout, disconnected

As far as I can see at the moment I am secure - however, I am receiving a mass of attempts to hack my box through ftp..... could this be associated with that?

trout.

If you ask it like that, then I would have to answer yes. Anything is possible, but it is most likely and very likely that those entries are the result of chkservd verifying your FTP server is up and running.

Thanks SarcNBit,

LoL... yes - it was a very leading question!...

I am for all intense purposes secure - as far as I can fathom... yet there appears to be some script kiddies determined to get into my box  - they are shunned from ssh and ip's blocked for their attempts - yet I recently have a mass of these ftp timeouts from 127.0.0.1 -

It just made me wonder as I have never actually received these reports before from this box - could it have been associated I pondered? - Could one of the little [email protected]~!)&* have got through and were they doing something?

I'm going to go with 'chkservd' - yet also be on the highest alert - and take things as they come - poor 'ol chkservd is having it's time cut out figuring what all these dead connections on the box are!!
