To increase security I have disabled root login via ssh. I login via another user name and then su to root.

When I try to execute some system commands such httpd, useradd, passwd etc the system can not find them. To my annoyance I must now cd myself into the exact directory of each executable respectively.

How can I make all executables automatically accessible via this login procedure just as they were with direct root login?

    Any help much appreciated!

    Go on, have a guess
When you su into root make sure you have a trailing dash:
    su -
This then executes the normal login scripts, otherwise they're bypassed and your path may not be correctly defined.
