Looking for documentation on HOW TO in all the wrong places?

Greetings,

First of all I want to say that I finally made the switch from Windows server to a Linux server and I’m pleased thus far.

However, there are some issues that I need some help with. I belong to another other forum (CentOS) and they said that when you apply WHM and cPanel that it changes how Linux works. I can see how that would affect things.

I’m new to all of this so please bear with me. I’ve looked at cPanel and WHM Help documentation and quite honestly it doesn’t explain things in detail. IMHO it is more of a glossary of things than it is “help” or “how to” documentation.

cPanel User Guide
WHM User Guide
The Apache Web Server and cPanel & WHM

I’m looking for documentation that tells me in DETAIL what I need to do and HOW I accomplish that task. For example, if I need to change the php.ini file, the online documentation tells me where it is located, etc. But, it doesn’t tell me HOW to access that particular file.

The php.ini File

“Your server's php.ini file is located at /usr/local/lib/php.ini. However, we strongly recommend using WHM's PHP Configuration Editor feature (Main >> Service Configuration >> PHP Configuration Editor) to edit PHP's configuration file.”
Keep in mind that I’m NEW to the Linux world. Unfortunately my host server has “forced” me to become a root system admin due to their limited product range and support. I was a system admin on the AS/400 for years and I learned that without any training. So, I’m EAGER to learn about all of this.

In addition, I need documentation on how Apache, WHM & cPanel work together and how one affects the other. I need to know the ins and outs of how apache, cPanel, and PHP work together because that is one of my primary concerns at this point.

Can anyone PLEASE tell me where I can find documentation that meets most or all of what I just said? ;)

I’m currently running CentOS 5.8 x86_64 virtuozzo and WHM 11.30.6 (build 6).

Thanks for your help!

Brian

WHM > Service Configuration > PHP Configuration Editor :)

they said that when you apply WHM and cPanel that it changes how Linux works.
This isn't exactly accurate I don't think.

In addition, I need documentation on how Apache, WHM & cPanel work together and how one affects the other. I need to know the ins and outs of how apache, cPanel, and PHP work together because that is one of my primary concerns at this point.
That might be a long post.

Infopro,

Thanks for replying. However, I've been there and it doesn't give me all the options I'm looking for.
WHM > Service Configuration > PHP Configuration Editor
How do you edit this manually and get to other things in WHM, cPanel, & Apache? I don't want to just know the GUI iside of things either.

I'm not expecting a long post. All I want to know is where the documentation exists? HOW do I get here....

/usr/local/lib/php.ini.
