I have set up a new VPS and have been trying to connect a new email account on Apple Mail. If I use mail.<domainname> as the incoming and outgoing server it fails to verify but if I use the server hostname it verifies. How can I get it to verify using the mail.<domainname>?

I have checked:
1. That a ping of mail.<domainname> returns the server IP
2. That an SSL certificate is installed and valid for mail.<domainname>

I have had a bit of a play with the ciphers and allowing weak ciphers and have also tried on my iphone, which is successful, so it's something to do with Mac OS X Catalina?

Thanks

Rich

Shouldn't be anything with the OS, how long has the server been configured? It may be that propagation hadn't completed yet for your local machine.
Thanks. It was configured last Wednesday and the emails still not working today. I also know the right IP was being picked up via a ping call from my mac.

I have, however, just got it to work. I deleted the account and re-added it, rather than just updating the password and that has worked. There probably was a cache of some sort, within the mail account, that kept it pointing to the wrong IP and not using the DNS.

Thanks.
