    Here's the scenario:

    We have a server running cPanel 11.25.0-S46156 - WHM 11.25.0 - X 3.9 that is producing an e-mail issue we could use some help with!

    On this server we have a domain which has been hosted for several years. We'll call that domain FRED.COM. FRED.COM has their website and e-mail handled on this server. Employees of FRED.COM have exchanged e-mails with WILMA.COM (hosted elsewhere) over the years without any issues.

    Recently, WILMA.COM came to use for hosting. They only need website hosting, as they are running their own MS Exchange server for mail functions at: MAIL.WILMA.COM. So, by chance, WILMA.COM got setup on the same server that FRED.COM is on.

    (BTW, our DNS is handled offsite by DNSMadeEasy.com...not running bind on our server that is hosting FRED.COM and WILMA.COM.)

    WILMA.COM transitioned to us without any problems and their mail was doing fine also...until this past week. Employees at WILMA.COM find they can send e-mail to anybody they work with.....except for addresses at FRED.COM!

    When someone at WILMA.COM attempts to mail someone at FRED.COM, they get the following bounce back message:

    ====================================================
    Diagnostic information for administrators:

    Generating server: WILMA-MAIN.wilma.local

    elfscape@fred.com
    foghorn.ourserver.net #550-Verification failed for <jwilliams@wilma.com> 550-No Such User Here 550 Sender verify failed ##
    ====================================================

    In the error message above, WILMA-MAIN.wilma.local is the SENDING server at WILMA.COM and foghorn.ourserver.net is our RECEIVING server (where FRED.COM and WILMA.COM are hosted).

    When we use the WHM Mail Troubleshooter and trace the address, we get:

    ====================================================
    jwilliams@wilma.com
    virtual_aliases via virtual_aliases router forced address failure
    ====================================================

    In addition, anyone at FRED.COM that attempts to mail to someone at WILMA.COM gets a bounceback message of:

    ====================================================
    No Such User Here
    ====================================================

    Which brings us to the main question....how to prevent our server from attempting to handle the mail for WILMA.COM and let their server do it instead so that FRED.COM and WILMA.COM can once again communicate with each other?!

    TIA for pointing us in the right direction for the solution!

    Remove wilma.com from /etc/localdomains file and put the domain into /etc/remotedomains file.

    If wilma.com is only hosting the site not the email on your machine, then the domain should be in /etc/remotedomains as that file handles domains that have off server MX records, while /etc/localdomains is for domains which should have local handling for email.
