Dont know if anyone can help, I am at a loss as to why I am having this problem but here goes.........

I run a red hat enterprise box, this is running opt-in mailing lists, I have 1 customer who keeps bouncing on these lists and I get the error message:

retry time not reached for any host after a long failure period

for his email address, not just him though, investigating deeper I find that all users with an email account from this particular company are similarly affected, just this 1 hosting company. I dont know if it is something wrong with my server or theirs.

I am guessing mine because I have another server (Same spec server, same mailing list script, Different hosting company and red hat 9, but set up with EXACTLY the same exim config) and this user (or any other users from this hosting company) do not bounce with this message.

    Yours confused!
    Andy

I've got the same problem with the bounced message.

    Except it's for ALL users.

    Go on, have a guess
Really need either the full bounce message, or better yet, get the exim message id from the bounce and search through /var/log/exim_mainlog for the full trace of that message and then post that as it should indicate where the problem is.

    It's their server.

Did a dnsreport on the domain name and they came back with:

ERROR: I could not complete a connection to any of your mailservers!

1000megs.us: Timed out [Last data sent: RCPT TO: ]

If this is a timeout problem, note that the DNS report only waits about 30 seconds for responses, so your mail may work fine in this case but you will need to use testing tools specifically designed for such situation.

I just wondered why their server?

I guessed it was their server, the message was bounced back to me. The only problem I have is trying to get my 'customer' (He's never paid for any kind of service!) to accept it, he says it is only a few of the mailing lists on this one server, however looking further into it I find he has bounced on a few other lists on other servers as well, maybe their server gets overwhelmed at times? I just wanted to make sure I was not being unfair telling them "look, your email has been returned to me by an error caused by your email host being unavailabel"

Thanks for all the help and advice!
