    I have read several of the threads and tried their suggestions but I am still having issues with my mail queue growing like crazy from bounced/frozen emails.

    I added the following to my exim config and it does seem to be making a difference. There are still emails over 7 days old appearing in the queue.

    timeout_frozen_after = 2d
    ignore_bounce_errors_after = 12h

    any suggestions?

    chirpy has some utilities

    check out each of the following:

    http://www.configserver.com/cp/cmq.html

    ConfigServer Mail Queues (cmq)

    This is an exclusive! and free! add-on product for cPanel/WHM. The product provides you with a full featured interface to the cPanel exim email queues from within WHM.

    The ConfigServer Mail Queues can be an essential tool for:

    * Determining why inbound or outbound email delivery is failing
    * Deleting bounce emails
    * Deleting frozen (undeliverable) emails
    * Forcing queue runs (especially useful for Smart Router emails to Exchange servers that are intermittently online)
    * Integrates with MailScanner, if installed, to offer views/deletion of email in both the Pending and Delivery queues
    * Searching for and viewing/deleting emails to/from specific domains and addresses
    * Viewing the email history from the exim mail logs for specific emails
    * Retry delivery for specific emails

    that should help you see what is happening perhaps...

    I have CMQ installed and use it to delete the old bounced/frozen messages in queue. I was hoping there was a way to do it automatically, i figured there must be a exim config option that would do that.

    On my Cpanel Servers running Exim, I had the same problem.

    I created a script as follows:

    exiqgrep -o 172800 -i | xargs exim -Mrm
    exiqgrep -z -i | xargs exim -Mrm

    This will clean up all messages in the queue that are older than 36 hours, initially I had it set for 3 days, but as our spam volume has increased so has our queue size.

    I am now contemplating dropping it down to 24 hours, realistically if mail cannot be delivered in 24 hours it probably is not worth being delivered IMO.

    I then have a cron job run this every hour automagically for me, and it has definately helped out.

    Hope this helps anyone.
