Maildir to Mdbox space increase?

Hello there,

Actually I have 3 cPanels accounts with +90 GB email space.

I converted from maildir to mdbox because the backup time is very high.

But when I converted them, the space increase, is this normal?

For example the first account had 91 GB (maildir) and after conversion get 102 GB, also I disabled backup conversion retain.

I need to do something to free up that space?

Also if I enable Email Compress, and convert mdbox to maildir, and once again maildir to mdbox, the older emails get compressed too?
