my mail queue is filled with messages from nobody@server1.my-server.com . . the statistics say that 'mailnull' is a big sender with 8442 messages compared with 34 for 'nobody'

when i try to deliver a message in the queue to a user it says
Message 1A7gUh-0007FB-Up is no longer frozen
    LOG: MAIN
lowest numbered MX record points to local host: server.com
    LOG: MAIN
== rob@server.com R=lookuphost defer (-1): lowest numbered MX record points to local host
    LOG: MAIN
    Frozen

when i try to deliver the nobody@ email i get
Message 1A7gUi-0007FE-78 is no longer frozen
    LOG: MAIN
remote host address is the local host: server1.my-server.com
    LOG: MAIN
== nobody@server1.my-server.com R=lookuphost defer (-1): remote host address is the local host
    LOG: MAIN
    Frozen

any idea what this all means? i'm not getting my emails :/

See if all your domains are under /etc/localdomains.
I don't know why but each time that CPanel updates the exim I have the same problem.
Some domains are not listed in /etc/localdomains and I am getting same problems like you.

    Hope that helps
