I'm having a similar problem with this. It didn't make sense at all. I made sure that the username was in the proper format (full e-mail addres with domain, even tried username+domain.tld too), made sure that the password was set right and it would still reject the password. Changed from a POP3 account to an IMAP account and it worked like a charm. Went back to POP3 and it would work.. then not work. 20 mintues later it would let them check mail for a minute or two then it would't. Toggling between 0x800CCC92 and 0x80042108. Durring this time it seems that they can't send mail either. It's like the system forget's their password for a while... any idea's?

    Cheers,
    Robby

I tried that, didn't throw an error and didn't print anything to the terminal so hopefully that'll do something. Thanks for the reply :P

Updating cpanel took care of it

We were having these same issues with passwords not authenticating. By updating cpanel the problem went away. I'm not sure what the problem was, maybe updating was just a coincidence.

Well, I don't know how to tell for certian. But a locate shows Exim 3.36 installed. I've got it updating at the stable release every night and I don't believe that 4 is out yet so 3.36 would be my assumtion.

    Cheers,

Yeah... I haven't had a complaint about it for a while.

Seems to me that we're having random issues with Cox and sending mail. Tried to map EXIM to use port 26 as well and for some reason some users still can't send mail... I have them telnet to port 26 r port 25 and no dice. It's random... but they can always use Cox's outgoing mail server and it works fine. Other then that I haven't seen an error at all.

    POP email failures

We also began experiencing unexplained POP email failures today. I tried upgrading to the new stable release that came out today but that has not fixed it. I've restarted everything and run /scripts/updateuserdomains and still doesn't work.

in WHM i try the mail troubleshooter and get a 'mail routing error" when I check each email address.

i've spent countless hours searching for an answer and trying things.

and browser based email has continued to work fine, btw. However no mail can be downloaded.

You have to use Cox's SMTP server for all out going emails from now on cause they blocked annoymouse sending. So if you are on the east coast it is smtp.east.cox.net which sucks cause now that is in the headers... Oh well shame on cox

I'm getting the same error on one of our servers. /scripts/exim4 didn't help and neither does /scripts/updateuserdomains.

This is a bit of a rant, but cpanel really needs to start testing releases better. It gets to be a major pain in the ass explaining to users that cpanel broke something when it was working fine the day before.

I was getting the same problem and then ran /scripts/mailperm and then /scripts/updateuserdomains and this somehow automagically fixed my problem. however, users no longer need to have the 'my outgoing server requires authentication' checkbox enabled. In fact, if they do then smtp will not work.
