Major Mail Problems (exim)

    An extreme amount of spam (1000+) came through to a domain that is hosted on a cPanel box. Exim queued up big-time and eventually prevented all normal email to be delivered.

    I now sit with the problem where the exim_mainlog is showing this every known again (I take it that when the queue runs):

    2004-07-02 12:29:55 1Bfn5l-00072u-Bm == routing defer (-51): retry time not reached
    2004-07-02 12:29:55 1Bfn4A-00072K-Sv == routing defer (-51): retry time not reached

    But the above x 1000 if not more. No mail to other users on the box is been delivered.

    I have already done a /scripts/exim4 but this has not fixed anything.

    Anybody got any suggestions?

    Keep in mind that :blackhole: has been added to that of non existing emails to the domain.

    you need to add a verify recipient to exim.conf so the MTA does not even accept the message before trying to deliver it!
    Do a search for this here on the forum, there have been numerous threads about this.
