I've been training a member of staff in setting up cpanel servers and unfortunately in the basic setup on one server she entered the local resolver ip addresses instead of the nameservers hostnames.

This means that all the DNS records on the server are incorrect - about 100.

Can I just go into /var/named and use...

    replace "IN NS x.x.x.x." "IN NS ns1.hostname." -- *

That wouldnt change the serial in the zone files though so how could I then force bind to update to the nameservers ?

Only those DNS zone files need to be edited that are added after making the change. The existing DNS zone files are not affected.

All the accounts were copied from another server - so they all need to be changed.

Anyway, thanks for your input but you didnt really help. I need to know if the changes will propagate thru the cluster and if not, how to make them do so.

    Just curious

I know it is a long shot but I am soooooooo confused. Would this by chance have any effect on the websites involved? I am having some very strange issues which nobody seems to be able to resolve. Sorry if this is off topic but I am desperate.

Your post seems to have nothing to do with the issue here, although it doesn't really make any sense by itself either !?!
