Right now, only accounts with Full-Shell access have the capability of using SFTP to login.

Does anyone know how to allow a Jailshell-enabled account to support Secure FTP (SFTP) login?

Please support secure ftp with Jailshell

I'd like to add an amen too. My webhost just jailshelled all his accounts, and now there is no secure way for me to move my files on and off the server. I've googled around and it can be done.

While sftp does not work properly, you should still be able to scp files from your local machine.

From another unix machine the command would be:

To copy one file into your home directory:
    scp file domain.com:~/

To copy an entire directory into your home directory:
    scp -r directory domain.com:~/

That's a great tip, JCN. But many others like my clients use Windows-based workstations locally. I wonder when Nick is going to incorporate SFTP to JailShell.

Thanks for the tips. I will try WinSCP.

I would still like to ask the developers of Cpanl to include sftp access in their version of jailshell.

    Thanks,
    Tim

Sounds like the perfect time to take advantage of the Feature Request Form at http://support.cpanel.net

I would also like to see SFTP supported in Jailshell. I'll do the feature request form also.

If JailShell allows SecureSSH File Transfer mode to login, how do you keep people from being able to leave their /home space?

I know that I can use it to go just about anywhere. There are very few limitations...

If he enables this, I think It should be a setting in the tweak settings that says, enable, so that if it's NOT checked, it's NOT working. I don't want all of our users being able to snoop around, and it not be logged, since it's 'secure'. I only see commands typed, not where people visit.

    Any thoughts on that?
    Thanks.
    Richard

    Give us SFTP now!

I would like to also reiterate my request for SFTP under JailShell. I regularly use Dreamweaver MX 2004, and ftping over the unencrypted public wireless network here is insane.

Even if I could use SSH port forwarding to set up a tunnel and do regular FTP, that would work, but this feature is broken too.

Yes, I filled out the feature request 4 months ago and haven't heard a damn thing.

    SFTP Status

I wish the people responsible for Jailshell and SFTP would step up and at least give us a status.

It's rather ironic that in order to 'secure' a machine we must now use unsecure methods to communicate with it.

Anyone else (CPanel?) find this just wrong?

Thank you for ANY feedback on status. It would be greatly appreciated by many.

While we too have been complaining long and hard about the lack of SFTP support in JailShell, we have simply been instructing users to utilize TLS/FTP since it was added to ProFTPD quite some time ago. It's essentially SSL-encrypted FTP. It's slightly less secure that SFTP (128-bit vs. 192-bit), but if 128-bit is sufficient for HTTP, then it should be for FTP as well; not to mention that the transfers using TLS/FTP are noticably faster than SFTP.

If you are using ProFTPD, we'd recommend you just have your users switch over to TLS/FTP (most FTP clients these days support it).

Those of you that can't use TLS/FTP will just have to keep "popping a vein" waiting for the cPanel team to get SFTP implemented with JailShell.
