Attempting to follow the instructions in this rather old thread, I used the terminal command indicated and received:

[cpbackup] Backup Not Enabled (This can be adjusted in WHM => Backup => Legacy Backup Configuration)

There is no "Legacy Backup Configuration" under Backup, but in looking at all the other choices I do see switches for "legacy" and "backups" under "Backup User Selection," which are both enabled for the only user of the VM. So I'm stumped.

Certainly there must be some easy way to trigger an occasional full backup of a system manually on demand. What is it these days, please? My provider is running 84.0.18.

The non-legacy backup can be forced manually as such:
/usr/local/cpanel/bin/backup --force
