Massive probem with the way WHM sets up SOA records... I think.

    We use an off-server email address when configuring the server admin contact email address:

    WHM ---> Basic cPanel WHM Setup

    Enter one or more email addresses to contact in case a problem arises with this server.
    Examples: john@doe.com, john.q.public@anonymous.com, user@host.com

    Okay, so we have one email account for this on which I have established different forwarders so that I know which server is sending the email, e.g.

    server40@alertmail.com
    server39@alertmail.com
    server37@alertmail.com

    etc.

    Okay, but again, alertmail.com is not hosted on most of the servers where we have established this contact email address.

    Now, I see that the SOA for all domains hosted on our various servers is an extrapolation of this email contact address, etc.:

    SOA = server40.alertmail.com
    (Where the alertmail.com domain is actually hosted on a different server.)

    A mismatch serial number problem arises (I think) because very few of these SOAs are actually present, hosted on the same server, i.e. because they are extrapolations from off-server email addresses that we use simply to receive alert messages from our servers.

    So.... How important would this be to fix, and what exactly should we do to fix this?

    Thank you.

    Whoever moved this to the email section. Thanks, but this is not an email issue.

    Does anyone have any idea about my question? Thanks.

    I don't have a solution, but I just noticed the same issue.
