Just to get things straight, what version of Cpane/WHM are you running, what version of Exim and what version of Perl.

Sometimes the errors you get are due to other factors.

If you have shell (ssh) access you can run a "perl -v" which should get you at least the systems perl version, but you can go into any cpanel account and look at the left side of the nav bar to see the "path to perl" to be sure you are calling the right perl when doing a "perl -v" as you might have more than one running.

For exim checking you can either telnet to port 25 on your machine and see what version it reports back when it greets you or go to WHM and restart EXIM and it will show the exim version in the startup lines the restart produces.

Have you tried to upgrade exim first, I know 4.63 is very old and many new functions in cpanel/whm require at least 4.66 or higher, many newer cpanel installed modules are needed in perl. I am pretty sure you should be up to 4.68 or at least 4.66. Thats possibly what is causing it.

Warning, you are running an old version of exim that cannot fight spam as well as newer versions. You should update to exim 4.68 or later as soon as possible.

Other than that do you see anything specific during the eximup run that shows any failure or does it just put that message out and end?. You might need to open a trouble ticket on this if thats all it does, as something might be confusing it to not proceed with the actual eximup, but I imagine there is a bigger error somewhere and it should show up in the run of eximup.

If you are on mbox, the latest version of Exim you can use in a cPanel environment is 4.63. If you wish to use Exim 4.68, you must use maildir.

    exim down! urgent

i am in the same situation as sphost (VPS, redhat). i ran /scripts/convert2maildir which said it completed and i think it also set maildir=1 in cpanel.config - but when looking in WHM all mail was staying in the queue, nothing was delivering for hours.

all my attempts at convert2maildir also end with-

i tried a restart of exim, cpanel... now i can't get exim to start.

i have tried killing all exim relating processes, and deleting subsys locked files.
i have tried ALL the exim related cpanel config/update scripts.
i have tried upcp --force with stable and release trees.
i have tried eximup --force so many times.
and i've done this all more than twice.

i can't get exim to start.
and sometimes it appears that all the cpanel/mail ports are blocked - 2086, 2087, 110, etc - even if netstat -nlp says the server is listening on those ports, so i can't even access whm/cpanel.

from what i can see, the issue might be that convert2maildir has converted the mailboxes, but didn't install courier impap and pop?? now the config is all split over the place? there are many references courier update and some courier processes, although WHM service manager reports old mbox stuff.

/scripts/courierup --force dies "bad ELF interpretter".

how do we get exim back? either with mbox or maildir?

In this situation, I'd recommend submitting a ticket directly to us so our support team can login and assist with correcting the issue:

The reseller will receive a faster response time than you would via the ticket system. Note, there's always the option of submitting a ticket without logging in so you can get support directly from our staff. However, that process will result in longer response times.

You can convert by running the following interactive script:

    /scripts/convert2maildir

Long story short, do not terminate the process once you start it. That's how bad things happen. It may appear to hang, but let it continue. This process can take anywhere from 5 minutes to 2 days (or potentially longer) depending on the amount of mail stored on the server. The conversion process, once it commences, will take place in the background so don't worry about losing your SSH connection or anything of that nature.

Note that email will be queued rather than delivered while the conversion is in progress and users will be unable to access email (to ensure no one inadvertently messes anything up).

If you encounter any issues with the conversion, feel welcome to submit a support ticket directly to us: http://tickets.cpanel.net/submit
