melange - any way of telling if any users use it?

For some odd reason I noticed that I'd forgotten to disable melange on a new server. I normally disable it asap to make sure no-one uses it and hence is dependent on it.

Any ideas as to how I might check if anyone is using melange, short of asking all users?

My server got exploited due to melange chat server. Telnet to port 6666, it doesn't even ask for a password :p is it exploitable?
