    Hi,

I have two websites and 100's of customers that use my website daily.

    The first website is called:

www.MyWebsite.com and has IP address of 127.0.0.1

    The second website is called

www.MyWebsite2.com and has IP address of 128.0.0.1

(All website names and IP addresses have been changed to protect the innocent)

MyWebsite2 is hosted with the same hosting company but has website improvements (a few new pages) it is also on a VPS.

We would like to have all of our customers to use the new website but how should we move it over?

Approach one: Change the A-Records of 128.0.0.1 so that it now reflects the old website name:
    www.MyWebsite.com

The problem that we are having with this method is that it takes hours to propagate through the internet. My boss doesn't like this because if we have some failure with the site -we can't easily or quickly change it back.

Are there any other options? He would like to actually switch the ip addresses rather than resolving the name to the new IP address. Is this possible?

Why not use a meta redirect on the index page or a redirect in .htaccess on the old server? If you redirect to the new location, you could then yank the redirect and people would then go back to the old site if anything goes wrong. After you confirm everything is fine, simply change the A record to point both to the same location and park the old website name onto the new one.

This is a really good idea.

Is there a way that I can redirect from whm/cpanel? ie do you have a handy link?

You would do the redirect on the old server where yo0u only have cPanel access. There's a redirect option in cPanel.
