My host service copies my log files to my home directory every night. I then download those log files for offline analysis. I can then summarize that data by hour of the day. I've noticed that the number of hours during the day that web traffic is recorded to my log files is shrinking from both ends. I lose about an hour of logged data per week down to about 4 hours of recorded data then it bumps back up to 24 hours of recorded data. The pattern seems to repeat every 15 weeks.

Webalizer seems to show the correct data, it is only my daily log files that have the missing data. I have verified by visually checking the log files. My host service tells me that it is cpanel's scripts which backup my log file daily.

Does anyone have any ideas what may be going on? It's depressing to own such expensive log analysis software and not have access to all of my log data. :(
